Google and Citizens Advice Bureau Partnership Attacks Facebook
The news facebook have been [w]rapped on their boring knuckles for destroying privacy online is very interesting indeed.
Especially if you’re interested in UK offline display ads.
Building up to yesterday’s announcement, Google have been running a campaign with Citizens Advice Bureau, alerting to Average Joe how e.g. Google know where you are in the world (using your IP address who knew?!).
A series of billboards over the tube, giving you some info on how search works, with a lot of messaging about ‘be careful what you do online’. A veiled attack on facebook in my opinion.

WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?
It means that GOOG have a superb ATL planning and buying agency, who have excellent partnership capabilities. In one perfectly engineered bit of advertising they manage to trash facebook their biggest rival, partner with the lovely people at the CAB, destroy any NASCENT fear of GOOG, and give the consumer a lot of good info. Well done everyone involved.
WATCH OUT, WORLD
I have removed my facebook account, a momentous moment. My usage peaked in 2006, the glory years of hitting F5 all day and heavy flirting. Facebook recently updated something, which meant i saw all the people i had hidden once more in my stream, as they had changed the word hidden into inactive or something. So i got rid of it.
Incidentally, deactivating your facebook account isn’t the same as deleting it. I think the difference is they can still serve ads to the page (good for Reach), but no one can see them (bad for Conversion).
